Nippon Express Co., Ltd. Employees. Sustainable Development Goals and Management Training
We interviewed Nippon Express Co., Ltd. who underwent our Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Management Training, to hear their thoughts on human resource development and their impressions of using our training services.
Please tell us about your company's approach to human resource development.
At our company, training is typically conducted at the organizational level. In our sales department, we are currently focussed on human resource development from the perspectives of 'proactive thinking and action' – meaning employees think and act on their own initiative rather than passively – and 'psychological safety.’ In today's rapidly changing world, the "right answer" in business is constantly shifting. Therefore, we feel it's essential to continuously seek the "right answer" rather than simply adhere to old customs. Regarding 'proactive thinking and action', we believe it's crucial for employees to first notice changes in the world and develop an awareness of problems. To this end, we strive to create training opportunities that foster such abilities. We also aim to implement mechanisms and structures that ensure what is learned in training can be put into practice, not just learned and forgotten. We are working to improve the workplace environment so that team members can freely express their opinions and arrive at the right answer through collective intelligence. Furthermore, we believe that unless we obtain a powerful conviction, our message won't be conveyed to others. Therefore we aim to maintain a clear and strong sense of purpose. Please tell us if there are any specific points you focus on or expectations you have for your employees. Even during the training itself, we made an effort to create opportunities for participants to think and speak for themselves. We believe that employees won't change their behavior unless they realize the need for it themselves. Therefore, we focus on how to encourage them to approach the training and subsequent work proactively. To ensure that learning isn't just an end in itself but leads to actual behavioral change, we had them apply what they've learned after the training and present their results.
What prompted you to consider SDGs training?
Nippon Express Co., Ltd. was reborn as the NX Group in January 2022, and all signage, company brochures, and other materials were updated. Our new company brochure concisely outlines our vision and direction, not just for clients, partners, and shareholders, but also for us, the employees. After reviewing the new materials, we noticed many SDGs-related keywords, such as "realization of a sustainable society" and "improvement of engagement." While younger generations are learning about SDGs in school, our honest feeling was, "We've heard of it, but we don't really understand the details."
We understand you compared us with other companies, but why did you ultimately choose Reskill?
The primary reason we chose Reskill was your representative, as they truly listened to and accommodated our specific requests. It was incredibly helpful that the curriculum wasn't just an “off-the-shelf” package; instead, it was customizable. It perfectly met our needs:a program that effectively conveyed fundamental knowledge. Additionally, your website is very intuitive, making it easy to find and locate the training we were looking for. When discussing other training needs, we briefly explained our general objectives and your representative immediately compiled the content for our team.
What was your impression of the training content?
The training content balanced lectures, workshops, and presentations perfectly, creating an environment that all participants enjoyed and actively engaged in. Through the workshops, we were able to learn how the 17 SDGs guidelines connect with our company's economic activities. Furthermore, the training provided clear guidance on how individuals, the company, and teams should act in tandem moving forward.
What specifically did you enjoy about the training?
During the training itself, when we had additional requests regarding content alteration, we greatly appreciated that the instructor listened and adapted the training accordingly. In terms of substance, it was great that the training clearly conveyed how SDGs connect to our daily work. The survey results showed that almost all participants reported being "highly satisfied," which is unprecedented for our company's training programs. Even though SDGs are a significant global theme, we were able to systematically break down and understand how they apply to our own company and work, leading to many "aha!" moments. Moreover, it's a very approachable topic, making it suitable for new or young employee training. It was an enjoyable session where participants could think freely, exchange ideas, and deepen their group interactions.
