We spoke to Honda Motor Co., Ltd., who requested our presentation training, about their thoughts on human resource development and their impressions of using our training services.
What prompted you to consider training? Why did you decide to take presentation training this time?
As members of the New Honda Circle (NHC), our internal human resource development department, we wanted this year's young employees to develop clear and easy-to-understand presentation skills, which led me to consider providing them with training.
What kind of activities does the NHC carry out?
Our name reflects our hope for the future through our motto: Now, Next, and New. For this year's activities, teams were formed in December. After themes were decided by mid-February, our goal was for participants to learn effective presentation skills for their interim reviews with evaluators.
Have you ever received presentation training in the past?
Our company had never conducted training specifically for presentations. However, we previously held sessions where employees who had advanced to higher-level competitions shared tips and key insights on effective presenting.
What kind of training did you initially consider?
We envisioned a training program that would enable young employees to give explanations that were easily comprehensible. We conveyed that concept to Reskill and entrusted the details to them.
What was your initial impression of the curriculum we presented to you?
It was just as we had imagined. In particular, the content on presentation skills was substantial and enriching, which was wonderful.
Why did you choose Reskill?
The deciding factor was our limited time until implementation and their immediate availability. During the first phone call, they carefully listened to our requests and offered to present a proposal right away, which put us at ease. Reskill’s swift response to the contract and curriculum details allowed us to proceed within our desired timeframe. The content matched our needs, and the cost was well-balanced. Additionally, seeing Reskill's website with many success stories from major companies gave us high hopes.
Actually conducting training, what was your impression of the instructor?
We observed the training and felt that the instructor demonstrated exceptional teaching skills. They carried themself well which left a good impression. At first, the participants were tense, but thanks to the instructor, the atmosphere became more relaxed. In addition, the training was always interactive, not one-sided. The instructor's feedback on individual presentations drew out each participant's abilities and individuality, revealing new strengths to me as their supervisor.
What did you think about the training content?
When we reviewed the schedule, we anticipated it would take ample time for the skills they learned to be implemented. After observing the actual training, however, we saw immediate improvements in their presentation skills compared to before the course, and we were pleased that it seemed to boost their confidence. Moreover, it would typically take a lot of time for each person to present, and we rarely get to observe others' presentations in our daily work. Thus, by watching these trainees, we gained significant insights on how to improve our own capabilities. The participants also realized their own growth. In the post-training questionnaire, many commented that the training would be useful beyond NHC presentations. We felt that this type of training should have been available within the company much sooner, and many of us wished we had received it when we were younger.
Have there been any changes in the way you train people going forward?
Our company has an in-company training system, but it does not place a specific emphasis on presentation techniques. We felt that the content of this training covered skills essentials for any working adult, and we fully intend to continue this training in the future. However, since few people in the company can provide this type of specialized training, we think it would be better to continue partnering with outside providers like Reskill.
Finally, what are your expectations and requests for our company in the future?
This training was excellent, and the presentation skills of both our young employees and ourselves improved significantly. We are very grateful. We believe Reskill provides an excellent training program that nurtures young people who eventually go on to lead society and, we hope that they will continue their enrichment and training.
